PLAYER PROFILE: Bill Pomeranke
Welcome to Player Profile! Each month we’ll feature a member of our all-star lineup with a Sports and Company Culture Q&A.
This month we’re featuring Bill Pomeranke, Staff Engineer on the Backend team. Bill originally hails from NYC but spent most of his adult life living in Tokyo, Japan. In March of 2022, he joined Frontrunner’s engineering team, bringing with him a passion for sports and finance that shows through in his work on the product. In his downtime, you can find him hanging out with his wife and two daughters, playing video games, and practicing martial arts.

What do you like most about the company culture at Frontrunner?
We have awesome teammates and are focused on building a great product for our customers. We roll up our sleeves and support each other to get the job done - there’s no ego and no politics.
What’s been your favorite Frontrunner Memory so far?
The rollout to the production environment over the summer was one of the most rewarding rollouts in my career. As an engineer, it’s great to see something you’ve built have instant engagement!
What makes you excited to come to work?
We are building something truly unique, and when folks use the product they are able to connect their sports passions into something rewarding.
What’s a fun fact about you people may not know?
My wedding aired on NHK in Japan.

What is one of your favorite sports memories?
I went to a lot of baseball spring training games when I was growing up. One time we had seats near the on-deck circle and I complained to my dad “I can’t see the game - Derek Jeter is in the way”.
Who are some athletes you admire?
Lebron James and Wayne Gretzky
If you could go to a baseball game with any famous person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Billy Martin. He had a creative management style and I would love to learn more about the way he solves problems.

If you could dream up any sports partnership for Frontrunner what would it be?
EVO - Evolution Championship Series
When did you first get into crypto and how?
I heard about Bitcoin almost 10 years ago and I didn’t think much of it at the time. I participated in other distributed-compute projects but had I started mining Bitcoin instead I would be rich!
What are some of your favorite NFT projects?
VeeFriends and MoonBirds
Tell us about a betting or gambling memory!
When I was in college I went on a gambling boat with my roommates and had a blast. We didn’t make a ton of money that day but being able to play casino games for the first time was great.
What is the best concert you have ever seen?
